When we first started in the beta with AS3, I was a little freaked out as it was so different from AS1 I feared as a casual user it would be too much to learn, so I understand the reluctance from the users.

Learning it was not so bad in the end, the hardest part was “unlearning” the AS1 stuff.

A couple of things I do that help, I created a quick link in Firefox for the Koolmoves help index.html file and one for the Adobe Docs page for AS3, that way while coding I can easily look up the apis for whatever I’m doing.

I think the biggest help for me at least would be code completion, code hinting like in FlashDevelop would be great, also as in FlashDevelop it adds the import statements as needed and even code hints custom components.

am very impressed of the scrollbar. But actually i don’t get along with that.

I placed the as file in the bin\…\components\ dir.

i set the path: “File, Action Script Classes, Root Path for classes” to the same components folder.

i added
var _scrollBar = new CustomScrollBar(txt3, 15, 280, true, stage, {gradient:true, alpha1:1, alpha2:0.5, fTint:0x0445c8, bTint:0x0445c8, corner:10});
addChild(_scrollBar);

to the frame action script.

i tried also to put ” import hexluvscrollbar; ” in.

and that all results in multiple error-messages about missing filepaths / files.

If you lock a thread…make sure it’s not pinned. Same if you pin a thread…do not lock it. In admin that will use radiocontrol buttons so when you choose one it will unchoose the other. In the database zero(0) is off and one (1) is on.

I tested heavily in a WordPress 2.7.1 blog from start to finish exactly the way I describe in the setup page and had great results. Hit my wpBBS if you notice any issues or have questions and thanks again for your help

This is unsupported as yet in Koolmoves and you need to fall back to traditional XML parsing methods until we do (and I hope we do soon!). I suspect Bob had to make hard decisions about what took priority as far as AS3 support and under normal conditions E4X is more targeted to dynamic code (which is why I whine, I love dynamic code using external data sources)and he is focusing on the language as a whole and getting core support fleshed out first (IMO).

As for FlashMX, you are not going to be able to open any example you find for AS3 with it and would need to bump to a newer version of Flash (CS3/4). A rule we have here is that we will not post any links to source that REQUIRES the user owns Flash to view the document class (which would mean the .fla itself is the main document that calls the classes). Devon was kind enough to post the document class (much like Flex sites always do) in human readable form so Flash is not required to expose usage of the class in question and therefore was listed here.

The xml problem is not the only one you will encounter. Other aspects of the class had to be tweaked to compile in Koolmoves. What you need to do is get an Adobe Flash Player 10 — Debugger Version so you can effectively test the class and target what is failing and where). This is the case with most classes we test and it’s trial and error right now. The more Bob gets the compiler to support things like E4X and nested functions (to name a few), the more easily it will be for us to utilize AS3 classes without need for alteration. AS3 support is young with Koolmoves and as the year progresses I suspect we will see Bob work his magic toward this goal. So far what he has achieved is amazing and I have no doubt he will accomplish any task he devotes himself to.
